Yesterday Dave and I went to a Bat Mitzvah for the daughter of a gal that Dave works with. This was the first time I had ever attended anything pertaining to the Jewish culture or Judaism as a religion, and it was really quite amazing. Viewing it from a completely outside the group vantage point and trying to acknowledge and appreciate the artistic aspect of the service, it was very beautiful. There was a rabbi and I believe a 'chanter' who were conducting the service, of which half was in English and half in Hebrew. They sang a lot of prayers in Hebrew and even without having any connection or familiarity at all to the language, it was pretty to listen to the prayers and chants in the service the service. After it was done I wanted to find the woman who had been singing the prayers and tell her how beautiful I thought it was. Cause it really was. Listening songs in different languages can either be annoying or pleasant, and this was definitely the latter. Dave and I both were glad we had gone and although we didn't know the daughter, it was good to support the family. There were a lot of people from Dave's job that had come to support their friend and co-worker.
And just for the benefit of everyone who was like me, according to Wikipedia: In Judaism, Bat Mitzvah (בת מצוה, "one (f.) to whom the commandments apply," is one of the terms to describe the coming of age of a Jewish boy or girl.
It was a very good experience and we both enjoyed ourselves and the service. And so I will say to you now, Shalom שָׁלוֹם

Please Simon Fuller, put a MUZZLE on Mary Murphy!!!!!
This is the first season I've ever watched So You Think You Can Dance. It seems to take me awhile to get into Simon Fuller shows. I didn't start watching American Idol until the 3rd season, and I think this might even be the 3rd season of So You Think You Can Dance. But as I've been watching it I really am pretty amazed at how talented the dancers are. Some of the choreography is a bit beyond my comprehension, especially when it's modern dance, or interpretive dance, I just don't get it. But it's amazing how difficult these dances are and how easy they make them look. So overall I'm feeling this show.
What I'm not feeling is freaking annoying Mary "Horse Mouth" Murphy!! I know she's got quite the dance history blah blah blah but holy HELL is she annoying! So incredibly annoying. The annoyance level I feel for her is way beyond any of what I feel for Paula on American Idol. I've yelled at the TV more times than I can remember for Paula to just shut up!!! Of course she never listens, but I still yell at her, and Mary Murphy is way beyond that. I'm afraid of her teeth for one, they just go on forever, and it seems at any given moment she could reach over, grab a dancer, and chew their head right off. So the teeth thing is scary, but her screaming, her laugh, her overall being is just so annoying! Everytime she speaks I want to poke sharpened bamboo shards under my fingernails. That is how much I can't stand her. She's almost enough to make me stop watching the show and it's only been 2 weeks into the top 20.

We're Engaged!
I've started this post so many times but keep getting distracted by phone calls and telling live people about this story. But I think I might have only told a few people all the details of the story. Some know parts, and some know other parts, but only a few know from start to finish, so here is the start to finish of how we got engaged last weekend (6/7/08 as it turned out - a nice way to remember the day).
At the end of May Dave had suggested that we take a weekend getaway trip up north to Duluth to see Lake Superior, which is something we have wanted to do for over a year and had just never done. He said that he would check out hotel options/dates/prices, etc for the weekend of the 20th. But when he started looking into options everything was booked for that weekend, or else rooms were just very expensive! So he looked at the weekend after and it was the same thing. There must be something going on in Duluth, cause everything was booked. So then I suggested that we do it the weekend of the 6th and he was completely ok with that idea. In my mind I thought there might be a chance he might be proposing, but to have bumped up his plans by 2 weeks, and not to be sweating it at all?!? So then I thought maybe he's not, because he wasn't nervous and didn't mind the idea of moving it up, so he must really not be. I checked on priceline and we got a good deal on a room and then the trip was set, cause there's no getting out of priceline :)
We got to Duluth Fri evening, checked in, had dinner and drove around the town to see some sites. And it was a pretty area; we drove over the road of the aerial lift bridge and saw the beach, took pics, etc. We had plans to take a boat ride on Sat at 1:30, but we had also talked about driving up the coast of Lake Superior and wanted to do that earlier, so we called and changed our time to the 11:30 ride so we could get an earlier start. The boat ride was really cool. We got to ride through the harbor, see a lot of the town from the water front view and I took a lot of pictures of the area from the boat. It was really nice. 
Windy, but nice. Then after that we headed up the scenic route of Hwy 61 up to Two Harbors and saw a lighthouse there. There was a small pier that you could walk out to, but we decided not to stay and do that, because we wanted to head up to Gooseberry Falls State Park and see the waterfalls. 
That was really nice, it was pretty and we were able to take the trail to the middle falls, which were just awesome. We were so close to the water falling that we could have reached out and tough it. I wish I had cause it was really amazing.
At one point while we were at the falls, Dave kind of knelt down to tie his shoes and I thought how cool it would be if he pulled out a ring. But he didn't. And at one point I even put my hand in his shorts pocket and he didn't try to stop me, and I didn't feel anything ring like and he didn't seem nervous, so again, I thought there really wasn't a chance. We stayed around Gooseberry Falls for a little while, took a lot of pictures, hiked up a little higher, took more pics, and then decided we wanted to really push and head up to Canada, because we wanted to get a stamp in our passports. We've had passports for 2 years and had yet to use them. But now we have! Over the cou
rse of stopping to see the lighthouse, falls, and then the 2nd town we stopped in, Grand Marais, to see the light house and eat a little dinner, it was getting to be about late in the afternoon but we really wanted to keep going.
By the time we reached the border it was probably about 7 or so, and we waited in line for a bit, and then when it was finally our turn, I asked the guard if he could stamp our passport. He looked at me like really? but then he did have them stamped. He had asked us where we were going and how long we'd be there. I told him that we really just wanted to be there long enough to get our stamps, turn around and head out. Then Dave asked if he had any suggestions to where we should go and the guy said there was
n't anything until Thunder Bay, which would be about 40 miles away. We knew that but I really figured there would have to be something between there and Thunder Bay, so we drove on in. But there really wasn't anything in between. There were no gas stations, small towns, or anything but farmland and houses between the border and Thunder Bay. By the time we got to the outskirts of the town, it had been another 45 minutes or so and I was getting concerned about how long it would take to get back to Duluth, cause we were going to have to turn around and drive it all the way back. So we stopped at the first gas station we came to, used the rest room, and then I started telling Dave my concerns about driving back. I set the navigation up to get back and it was saying 180 miles. Dave asked me if I was really sure I wanted to turn around without seeing Thunder Bay, and although I wanted to, I didn't want to get home super late, because we had had a pretty busy day. So I told him that I thought we should turn around and he said ok. Little did I know that he had put the ring in his pocket back in Grand Marais and was planning on asking me in Canada when we stopped in Thunder Bay.
We headed home around 8 and got our passports stamped again on the US Border, but it took a little justifying as to why we wanted it. I guess there's not a big demand for passports around the Canadian border on that little highway. So during the drive home I kept thinking that if he was going to do it he would have done it in one of the pretty areas we had been, like the waterfalls, or the lighthouse, or somewhere beachy. But what I didn't know was that I had thwarted his plan now more than once. We got back to the hotel around 11:30 or so. I headed up to the room and Dave went to get some stuff from the front desk. I was in our room, got some ice, turned off the a/c and was pouring us some diet pepsis we had brought up with us. I was pouring the second one when I heard Dave come in.
He was behind me and I said something about how cold the room was (it was 60 degrees in the room with the a/c on full blast, thanks housekeeping I'm freezing!) and he says something like, but you turned it off, right? And I said yes, and he was like, alright then. So then I turn around with the soda in one hand and he's down on one knee, holding the ring box open and I'm just looking at him like what is happening? And he says, "Sarah, I love you. Will you marry me?" Those were his exact words. And I was literally looking at him trying to comprehend what was happening. He had this big smile on his face and kind of a little gleam in his eye because he knew I was so surprised. I had had to put the drink back down, and started to go for the ring, but then told him to put it on me and then I said yes as he was doing that. I had kind of forgotten to actually say yes, but I did finally say it. And I had started to cry a little bit but then when I saw the ring on my finger I just couldn't stop crying. And he got up and hugged me and I was just crying.
He asked me if I knew and I said no, but that I really wanted it to happen this weekend. He kind of led me over to the bed after we hugged and I just couldn't stop looking at it. Then all the questions poured out, like how long had he had it, where had it been in our house, where had it been on this trip (I had packed us and had never seen it!) when did he have it on him? All these questions! Then he told me he had actually gotten it when he went to his parents in CT in May. I couldn't believe it! I was actually supposed to go on that trip with him, but I got cheap and didn't want to pay the crazy ticket prices for 2 plane tickets. So I didn't go. But as it turns out the plan was to go into NY and he was going to propose there. So that was thwart #1. Thwart #2 was that he wanted to ask me in Canada, and I didn't give him the chance. Possible thwart #1.5 was at Two Harbors lighthouse, he had asked me if I wanted to walk down the pier. That would have been a pretty cool spot to do it, so I think he had considered it there, but here again, I had wanted to keep on going.
He also told me he had actually called my parents earlier in the week and got their permission and blessing. And he called my sister and told her he was going to do it, and of course made them all promise not to say anything, which no one did. My family is tricksie!!!
In the end, the way he proposed was the absolute best way it could have happened. Because I had pretty much decided it wasn't going to happen after all and that we really were just taking a weekend getaway trip. And I was really ok with that. Because I had been the one putting these ideas in my own head. I had tried to be subtle and ask questions I thought would give me some idea, but his answers were not what I thought they would be if he were going to be proposing. So I had come to terms with it not happening, so when it die it was the absolute best way it could have!
I'll start a wedding website sometime soon with a countdown ticker once we have some more info. I'm so excited. The ring is awesome! it's just beautiful and exactly what I wanted.

Craigslist: 2 - Newspaper: 0
We officially sold Dave's grand prix today. We listed it on Craigslist.com Sun night around 11pm and had a buyer by Mon at 5pm and they were ready the buy the car last night. But due to a small title signing error, we couldn't actually make it official until this afternoon. But by 3 today we walked away less one car, plus lots of cash. And we even made a profit! Way to go Craigslist. Way to be free to list an ad! This is now the 2nd vehicle we've sold on craigslist and they've both sold in 24 hours with no hassles.

Spring. Finally!
I'm so glad it is finally warming up! I'm actually wearing capri's today for the first time in months. We swapped out our winter for summer clothes a couple weekends ago so I have shorts and capri's in stock. But still glad I held onto some of my sweaters cause we had snow last week. Very possibly the longest winter I've ever dealt with where we had snow on a consistent week after week basis. Yes, it would snow on Sun/Mon and be gone by Thurs/Fri but still it would turn around and snow again! In April! But I think we're on the end of that. Now I'm looking forward to the trees budding and seeing all the green again. That will make for some nice scenary.

Trips and Pics
We had a great time on our vacation last week. We flew into Idaho Falls late Fri night and then drove up to West Yellowstone, MT early Sat morning and met up with my good friend from college, Tara. 
She's been a snowmobile guide for the last few winters and I finally took her up on a chance to go snowmobiling through Yellowstone Park. This was another first for me and Dave, as neither of us had gone snowmobiling before. I've been to YNP before, but never in the winter. So it was a lot of fun checking out Yellowstone in the snow.
We started snowmobiling early Sat morning, after getting bundled up in 2 layers of long johns, sweats a full on snow suit and winter coats. We were bundled and warm!!! We saw a lot of wildlife - the buffalo were crossing the roads right in front of us, walking right along us, and were between 5-10 feet away. It was insane! We also saw a fox, a bald eagle, a coyote and multiple elk. More than once the buffalo literally came up next to us from the forest on the side of the road. Quite intense.
The first day we were able to go just with Tara, she didn't have to work so she was able to take us out on a tour, just us 3. Then the second day she had to work so we went with a typical group of 8 or so. We were able to take a lot of cool pics. So I'm going to just fill up my blog with pictures of the trip. Some are from YNP, and some are from Jackson. Anything that is sunny is probably Jackson, cause we didn't have much sun while we were in Yellowstone.

Yellowstone, here we come!
Well we have all our plans laid out for our Yellowstone Nat'l Park trip. We leave pretty late on a Friday, and get in at 11pm into Idaho Falls airport, but the car rental place at the airport swears they will stay until we get there, so they better! We'll stay in I.F. Fri night, then drive up to West Yellowstone, MT early Sat morning, meet up with Tara (the BEST Minivan Ever!) and start our day of snowmobiling through Yellowstone. Dave has never been there, so I am very excited for him to see some true wildlife, and I hope we can get some cool pics of buffalo, moose, etc that we just don't see here. And I want to get some landscape shots and ones to document the fact that we are on snowmobiles!! So we'll spend a couple days in Yellowstone, and then on Tues we'll drive to Jackson, WY where my cousin Brian is hooking us up with a nice hotel for cheap. So we'll hang out a few days in Jackson, and hopefully go skiing there. That will be another first for me and Dave. I've gone once or twice, years ago, but Dave has never gone, so it will be fun to go together. And again, another picture opportunity! Then we'll go back to I.F. Fri and fly out early early Sat morning.
We're really looking forward to this trip. Our friend Tara will take us on a snowmobile tour, and we'll get to hang out in Jackson with my cousin Brian.

I Heart DVR
So Dave and I saw I Am Legend and Awake last weekend. Both were aiight. Neither was fantastic. I didn't have too high of hopes for Awake, but I figured it would be alright and it was. I thought I Am Legend would be better. I didn't really like the ending. I was expecting more, honestly. So yeah, we paid money for those this weekend. But I saw a great movie for free this weekend, too.
I've been taking advantage of our DVR this week and have just been browsing through the guide to find stuff that I had heard of but had never seen, or had never heard of that looked interesting. Dave had to go to MO for a business trip and so I spent some time watching some random movies or tv shows that I had taped.
Some were ok, like this silly movie called Park about all these random people who wind up parked at this public park over looking LA and the things that happen to them there. The best part is when Ricki Lake and Cheri Oteri are beating the crap out of William Baldwin's SUV while wearing a Regis and he's cheating on Ricki Lake with Izabella Miko, who plays some foreign gal with a bad accent and she finally see's them (while William Baldwin is doing her doggy style) and says "Why is Regis Philbin attacking us?" that might be the funniest line in the movie. It was pretty silly with a few funny parts.
Anyway, I also started to wath Prairie Home Companion, and my rating is a big fat AWFUL. The only good part was the beginning cause they were representing Mickey's Diner in St. Paul, and we drive by there a lot, so that was fun. But the movie was bad, in my humble opinion. After the first 20 minutes straight I started fast forwarding to see if anything good happened, then I'd watch in random spots for a few minutes, and basically the show sucked. Don't bother!
Elizabethtown... started that, made it about 30 min in and just couldn't take it anymore and had to delete it.
But the best movie I saw for free was One Last Thing, which I thought was fantastic. Michael Angarano is a 16 year old kid who is dying from a terminal illness. He gets a chance to make a "wish" through a foundation that grants wishes for sick kids, and at the last minute he changes his wish from going fishing with his favorite football player to spending a weekend along with a super model played by Sunny Mabrey. Cynthia Nixon plays his mom who is struggling to come to terms with his end, which is rapidly drawing near. The acting was great. Mike Angarano was great and Cynthia Nixon was great. I almost wanted to go out and buy it so that they got money based on how great this movie was.
And this is the end of my movie reivew.
I've been taking advantage of our DVR this week and have just been browsing through the guide to find stuff that I had heard of but had never seen, or had never heard of that looked interesting. Dave had to go to MO for a business trip and so I spent some time watching some random movies or tv shows that I had taped.
Some were ok, like this silly movie called Park about all these random people who wind up parked at this public park over looking LA and the things that happen to them there. The best part is when Ricki Lake and Cheri Oteri are beating the crap out of William Baldwin's SUV while wearing a Regis and he's cheating on Ricki Lake with Izabella Miko, who plays some foreign gal with a bad accent and she finally see's them (while William Baldwin is doing her doggy style) and says "Why is Regis Philbin attacking us?" that might be the funniest line in the movie. It was pretty silly with a few funny parts.
Anyway, I also started to wath Prairie Home Companion, and my rating is a big fat AWFUL. Happy TDay
So Dave and I are sitting at the airport waiting to go to Utah. We're going to have T day dinner with my dad's side of the family, probably see a little bit of my mom's side and hopefully my niece and nephews. The youngest boy just got chicken pox (or something along those lines, the doctors aren't sure) so we may not be able to see them. Then we'll be hanging out a little bit in Utah, probably play some games with the family, watch movies, etc. Then Sat we're heading up to Pocatello, ID where I went to college, to see some of my college friends and have some good ol' Poky food. I'm super excited about Mandarin House (love their mandarin chicken) and Goody's (pizza bombs!!!) and just all around some good food that is only available in Poky. And of course I'm excited about seeing my friends. One of the group might not be able to make it up, so hopefully we'll see her on the flipside back in Utah.
Anyway, I'm excited about this trip. I've been looking forward to it for a little while and now we're here at the airport. It was really fast getting through security. I was surpirsed! We got there around 7:40 and we were at the gate by 8. Amazing, considering this is a heavy travel day!! Hopefully no delays from here on out, and we'll continue with our great Tday traveling experience!!
And re the Tday dinner, I'm way excited for pineapple bavarian. Yay for pineapple bavarian, a dessert dish my aunt Louise makes every year. It's so yummy!!!!

Movie Reviw Time!
So it's that time again, when I've watched a few movis, old and new, and have to comment on them.
Over the last couple weeks we've gone to a few movies and bought a few and seen a few on cable that I just have to remark upon.
So we bought Mr. Brooks while Michele was visiting and rewatched that. Loved it! I loved it just as much as I did the first time. I loved Kevin Costner in this, loved his alter ego played by William Hurt, I loved his daughter played by Danielle Panabaker, I really liked Demi Moore in it, and Dane Cook. The story is great, the end was great and I just have to rate it a 4 out of 5.
Sticking with Dane Cook, let's move into Dan in Real Life. Liked it. It was pretty cute and I really like Steve Carrell, who did great as a dad who's also trying to be the mom to his 3 daughters. It was a good heart felt dramedy without the corny lines and/or corny plot. It had quite a few big names, and former big names. I gave it a 3 out of 5. Dave was willing to watch it with me because I went and saw Michael Clayton with him. Hated it! I was asleep in the first 20 minutes, and I rarely sleep through movies. It was a SNOOZER!!! And I just didn't get the big deal. I think I actually fell asleep a couple of times. I really like Tilda Swinton but I thought her role here was blah. Having come from playing the Angel Gabriel in Constantine and the White Witch in Narnia, her character here was just blah. Blah blah, blah blah. I actually wanted my money back.
But we saw Dan in Real Life after American Gangster. That was Freaking Awesome. It gets a 4 out of 5. We've been watching some background on Frank Lucas and from what I've seen, the movie portrayed a very accurate depiction of him. We've been waiting for this movie since like May or so, and we were so glad to finally see it. I loved Denzel in it, of course, and I really liked the way the cinemetographer shot it. I'm thinking Oscar for best actor.
The last movie I'm reviewing is Why Did I Get Married? I've only recently become aware of the comedic genious that is Tyler Perry but I really have enjoyed his movies. We saw both Daddy's Little Girls and Married this year, and they were both very good. And I watched a few Madea movies on DVD that I hadn't seen and saw Madea Goes to Jail, which was hilarious. Overall I rate Tyler Perry a 4 of 5.
So mostly very happy about the movies lately, but Michael Clayton was a SNOOZER.

Some Random Pics
We haven't taken any pictures the last couple months, except the ones with the comics. So I'm putting some of my favorite ones from the last year on here.
A few of these are from some of our vacations, and I love the one with Dave sitting on the train steps. That was at the train station in Windsor, CT when we visited his parents in April. We're going there again for Christmas, so I'll get some more of the nice scenary covered in snow. I also threw in a few of the pics I took that I really love of locations, or inanimate objects. All that good stuff. But this first one is of us at Minnehaha Falls with Camille.

Is it too early for Christmas?
So yes, I know it's only Oct, and not even the very end of Oct, but Christmas is in the air for me. I'm so excited to decorate the house all Chrismasy, and I bought a tree last year the day after Christmas, so I'm excited to put the tree up. This will be the first time I've had a tree in a hella long time. I didn't have one in Des Moines or Phoenix, and can't remember if we had one in St. Louis. I'm excited to have one in the house this year, it will be Dave and my first tree together, because we didn't have one last year. I already have some decorations, and a nativity set and I'm going to wrap some garland around the stair rail. I'm just so excited!

Last Comic Standing
So Dave and I went to see the top 5 comedians from this year's Last Comic Standing. 
We didn't know who the top 5 were going to be when we bought the tickets, but we were very happy with who they turned out to be.
I only got a few pics of a couple of the comics as they were performing and then we took some pics after the show with them. Except for the chick, we didn't really like her too much.

We were laughing so hard! It was such a great show. Gerry Dee cracked us up. Ralph Harris was pretty funny too, but Gerry was so freaking funny. We didn't really care for Amy Schumer's stint. She had a pretty funny beginning but she got old pretty fast.
Then we were waiting for LaVelle Crawford. We were really happy to see him on Last Comic Standing this year, because we watch him on BET Comic View all the time and we really like him. So we were so excited that he was on Last Comic Standing, and very excited that he was in the top 5 so we'd see him live. He actually came in 2nd, to Jon Reep. He was the Hemi commercial guy. He was pretty funny, too.

Princess Hoo
So my good friend Regina has started her own blog, and I'm so proud of her!!! I met her while living in St. Louis, while she and Tracy were both going to school for social work, and I was a bum and all I did was work. I was done with school when I got my bachelors, so no grad school for me. But they did grad school, and met at an internship. So then Regina stepped into our lives and pretty soon the three of us were roommates in STL. And I learned a bit about Regina. She is a girly girl!! With super cute hair, clothes, shoes, makeup... the works! And she liked very nice things, and our nice apartment, and drove a cute car and everything that you'd expect from a well dressed and sophisticated grad student. And she loved purses. So to hear about her life now I am still in complete shock and awe. She has done a 180 and went from a nice apartment and nice clothes and makeup and air conditioning to a grass hut, dirt floors and the heat of living in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. I posted a link to her blog, in case people are interested in reading about her. I'm hoping she posts pictures, cause it's always amazing to see her there. She's doing social work/missionary work and they've helped to create an orphanage and have raised money to bring supplies and assistance into the area. I'm proud of her and still can't get over the fact that this is the same girl!!!
I still crack up over some of the things we did when we were roommates. One thing I always laugh about is the fact that she took a picture of me one time when I had brushed out my curly hair and it was really big. She tricked me and took a picture of it and I was so mad at her, but it's all good. She's not the only one who's done that, thank you Michele in Las Vegas for never sharing that picture!!!!!!!!!! But we had fun. And we had good BBQs too. Tracy and Regina would cook some good food on the Wheel It and Grill It! I wish I had some pics to share of us as roommates to post. I'll have to track some down and post them later.

Step into a Slim Gym
That's the plan! Dave and I signed up for a gym membership at the YMCA. I haven’t really told anyone, especially not my family yet, because I'm hoping that there will be visible results that my family will notice at Thanksgiving. But since I only have 4 regular readers (including myself and Dave) I'm not too concerned about spilling the beans.
So at first I was pretty much against the idea of joining a gym. But Dave got all the details about the membership, what is included and the fact that if we go 12 times a month we can get a $20 reimbursement from our health insurance. So we joined last Saturday, with the start date of Oct 1. We went Monday night to have our initial appointment with our personal trainer. We’ll have 3 appointments with a trainer over the next 12 weeks and maybe will buy additional sessions after that. We're going again tonight and will do cardio with a focus on strength training.
So I've gone to the other side. I'm a worker outer.
